History of Rancho Penasquitos

  • The story starts with 1823 when Captain Fransico Maria Ruiz was awarded 4243 acres of land. The land was located in the eastern part of the Canyon and extended to the rancho Bernardo areas.
  • The reason for getting this land by Francisco was just because of his loyal services in Mexico. However, the property was not ideal for cattle or cultivation, so Francisco requested to have another league of land to the west side, known as El Cuervo.
  • 1834 was the time when his wish becomes real, and he received an area in El Cuervo, which later become a part of Los Penasquitos.
  • The area was remained operating as a ranch until 1962 when one of the estate tycoon Irvin Kahn acquired almost 14,000 acres of land and converted the area to a residential planned community.
  • The first resident of this town moved to this place in 1963. In the same year, the Rancho Bernardo Inn and one of the very first shopping center also opened in Rancho Penasquitos.
  • In the starting 1964, this new community residential growth marked to 1300. In mid of the same year, the residential growth marked to 2000 residents.
  • Slow and steadily, the area becomes one of the famous places where the majority of the people come for tourism and businesses purpose.

Tourism in Rancho Peñasquitos:

The place offers a lot of tourism-related things to people from other cities of America, and those coming to America for the first time. There is an urban park, also known as Los Penasquitos canyon preserve that is spread across 7 miles of land. It is known as one of the largest urban parks in America.

You can have fun at this place by experiencing its little cliffs, which is the main attraction for tourists. There are few other preserves also available near to Rancho Penasquitos where you can enjoy hiking and biking trails along with your family or friends. Visting these hiking trails creates an experience of looking at the whole area from a bird-eye-view. There are community parks, where residents of this area come for fun and entertainment along with their families.
